I grew up in San Bernardino, greats place to ride.
Did a lot of riding in the SB mtns around Lake Arrowhead, Big Bear and Crestline.
The old days on my CB750.
Been here 10 years now, can't beat Texas on a VTX.

I Know all those places very well.
The Calvtx riders have a run up to Big Bear every Memorial Day weekend to raise money for our Veterans.
I attended the last 3 years. Had a blast every time.

Does the Texas group organize any big rides like this during the year? If so, where do they go?

Others may very well correct me but from what I have seen the Texas X Riders themselves don't organize big charity rides, but there are tons of charity rides organized by other groups in the TX area.  I forgot to look at your profile and see where in TX you are, but here in Houston there are rides all the time.  In fact the SCRC has organized a ride out of Conroe for St Jude's Childrens Hospital.  They call it the Chilly Willy ride and it is Feb 6-7.  That is the next one coming up that I know of.  And believe me there will be tons of others.

I'm in San Marcos. Thanks for the info but I wasn't necessarily talking about a charity ride. Do the central Texas riders get together just to ride as a group? I know the California folks had about 7 major rides a year to various places, just to get together with fellow VTX'ers. These were planned rides and reoccur every year at the same time and place. Is there anything like that here?

Look at BBT. And it's near your neighborhood. The group here has always been pretty unstructured. If you want to put together a ride or rides, post it/them up and the riders will come. You have some members fairly close to you who know the area pretty well.

Mark, going to bbt alot of us get together and ride in from different parts of the state. 500 miles for me to thereabouts. I usually meet up with dfw riders on the way down. The first bbt, I rode 660 miles to get down there, met up with a group from dfw, went further west towards comanchee to pick up birdman and headed south from there. The pilgrims from Houston frequently pick up riders on their way to Colorado in July and so on. The White Buffalo festival is growing every year out towards Sweetwater. I'll be riding down to Palestine the 24th of Jan, Belton the middle of March to the spring thing to camp, bbt in April to camp...Not sure if I'll make Colorado this year, last I went I believe was in 2005 or 2006.
Like Jim said, if you post a ride, it will likely happen. We sometomes ride in from all over for M&G, 60 or 70 bikes showing up. You gotta remember though, you are at the center I believe , usually everyone rides that way, sort of, so you'd need to get up a ride heading away from the center. The Talimena Drive north of me is 52 miles of mountain ridge road, scenic if you don't come in the middle of a major rain and cold front event like some of the last Houston area riders did. They did get to ride LA and most of AR in good weather before the $hit hit the fan, lol. Rain all the way south that time though.

Still trying to get the lay of the land here. As soon as I get a better feel for the place, I will definitely post up a ride. Looking forward to meeting as many of you Texas folks as I can.

I'll do the best I can. I noticed you all don't have a R rated forum here. ;)

Speaking of "R" rated stuff...heard on the news this morning that the porn industry is seeking $5 million of the bailout money.  According to Larry Flynt (Hustler's owner) business is down (hahahahahahaha - not good for porn action huh??).  Actually as the interview went on he admitted that he has always tried to expose (another pun here) politicians in all their corruptness and if they agree to give him bailout money then he is just further proving that they are a bunch of crooks playing with the taxpayers money.  When this news story started I was throwing up my arms in disgust but by the end of the story I was laughing.
