I try to wave to everyone I see on a bike. I used to get upset when someone wouldn't wave back until I missed a guy waving at me because the idiot in front of me had my full attention. I didn't see the other bike until he was nearly beside me.

It no longer bothers me. Something on his mind or traffic can make him miss you. Just wave when YOU can and try to nod your head when you can't.

Same for me. I wave when I can.

At 80mph on the freeways, I still wave at on-coming bikes!  Above 80, and I'll just look and nod (too much wind-drag!)
