Rider's Hello/Handshake ?
« on: January 03, 2009, 09:53:36 PM »

Went riding today,Old Town Spring/ Tomball area,so I'm riding along and see two other X's and I do my wave to say hello and only one would wave back,so I'm thinking how rude :'( So my question is who gives the  hello/handshake when riding and if not why, just wondering....

I by no means know all the rules/customs of the road...but I can give you my thoughts about it whether you want them or not  ;D

-I know there are lots of times that I am paying so much attention to the road/traffic and don't see a bike until the last minute and therefore don't think there is time to wave.
-There are times when I am with other riders and if others in my group wave then I don't necessarily wave since the acknowledgment was already made.

I love the traditional wave to other riders.  It definately makes it feel more like a family.  I remember one time another rider commenting to me that he never waves.  He said "I drive a mini-van and do not wave at all other mini-van drivers? Why should I do it with other bikers?"    My answer to him was "Well, maybe you don't wave back to other mini-van drivers cause none of you guys want to be noticed driving a mini-van???"  ;D ;D ;D

I say just keep waving if you want to and if others don't wave back, then move on down the road and wave at someone else.

Well if they belonged to our group then what happened probably is, the guy that waved was probably a Trailer Queen and the one that didn't was one of those Overlords. You know those guys sometimes gets a chip on their shoulder and their just not friendly at all. 8) 8) 8) 8)

I try to wave to everyone, but yes, when traffic is heavy or i'm in the middle of a gear change, it's hard, but as riders I pretty sure they know the circumstances.

Yeah, there's no way to wave safely while you're texting at 70mph. Safety first!!

I try to wave to everyone I see on a bike. I used to get upset when someone wouldn't wave back until I missed a guy waving at me because the idiot in front of me had my full attention. I didn't see the other bike until he was nearly beside me.

It no longer bothers me. Something on his mind or traffic can make him miss you. Just wave when YOU can and try to nod your head when you can't.

I don't care what other people think. They don't do it very often!
Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

Yep...but I've never actually waved from my pickup. Don't want to distract anyone. On my bike I always wave when I can do it safely. I'll also try to hold out my my left hand fingers IF I don't feel comfortable taking my hand off the grip.
