Sunday 1/4/08 ride
« on: January 03, 2009, 08:19:40 PM »

I know this is last minute but if anyone is interested in a ride here is one that is originating in Deer Park and heading up towards Livingston.  We are heading out of Deer Park at 9:00 if anyone wants to meet us at Brock's house.  We will stop at the Texaco station on the NE corner of FM 2100 and I-10 around 9:30.  If you want to meet up with us at lunch, we are stopping at the Courthouse Whistle Stop at 318 N Washington Ave, Livingston, TX.  My cell is 832 453 2668.  Here is the planned route of the day:

Well, there were pros and cons to today's ride.

Pros:
We were riding
Visiting with friends
Had a couple of really nice curvy roads (for those that left after lunch sorry you missed them)

Cons:
Connie's trademark U-turn
THE FREAKING FREEZING COLD WIND

Actually Wayne and I got very warm coming home after lunch.  When we got out of the Livingston area it warmed up to 74 according to a bank display in one town we went thru.  That sure was different from the 60 that it was when we left the cafe.

Sounds like ya'll found some decent weather. It started raining here around 5 this morning and we had showers all day until about 3:00pm. I will trade 60* for rain any day. (insert thumbs up icon here)  ;D

Wish I had sen your ride plans.
We ended up going to Yanky's in Carlos.
The ride started off nice when we met at the Starbucks on 290 & Spring Cypress.
After removing our jacket liners and some of us stripping down to t-shirts, we took
off towards the North. About ten minutes into the ride, SMACK! Cold hit us like a
brick. Dropped 20 degrees in a second. After about 10 more minutes of the leader
acting like he was fine, we stopped and refitted our colder conditions gear. After
that we were fine. Nice ride.
Never been to Carlos before that. Next time I go, it better be warmer.

Eric,
Carlos is usually just as warm as the rest of us around here in Houston.  Sunday a cold front moved in much earlier than I thought was forecasted.  We were riding along yesterday morning all warm and fine and as soon as we got by Lake Livingston it was as you described, a cold blast hit us and tried to blow us over.  I thought at first that it must be wind being chilled off of the lake, but it continued even after we got away from the lake.  Most all of the group chose to head straight home down 59 after lunch.  But Wayne and I (gluttons that we are) decided to go on and finish the planned route.  We bundled up with what gear we had and took off...and sure enough it warmed back up from 60 to 74 fairly quick.  We had a gorgeous ride back.  AND NO U-TURNS EITHER  :o :o :o

I came very close to "hangin' a Uee" but braved the ride and had a good time.
What saved it was the addition of long sleeve Yanky's t-shirt and a face mask.
