Clutch question
«
on:
December 28, 2008, 10:48:55 PM »
When my bike is cold my clutch tends to slip on take off. As you easy out on it, it slips and the bike jumps and sometimes it cause it to die. After the bike warms up it is fine. The question is do you think I need a new clutch or just new springs? The bike has 35000 miles on it. This started off and on about a year ago but now it is pretty bad.
Thanks!

if your going to tear it down to do one or the other, doesn't hurt to do both and be done with it. Sounds like it needs springs though, but if it was me, I would do both since your already in there. jmo.

Check your adjustment. If that's okay look for broken springs. If that won't do it you're probably due for a new clutch.

Mine was slipping at 25k so I'd say go ahead and change the plates and springs. The springs are weak to start with, so while you're in there just change the whole thing. It takes 2 minutes longer.

i am pretty good at breaking the springs upon install but have seen on the cali board where they have some better springs if you have time to order those.

I ordered a new Barnett clutch and springs set.
After the hell I put my bike threw at the track the couple of times I went I figured it couldn't hurt to put all new stuff in.
