I just got an e-mail from my sister. It seems that Cherokee productions who bought the mineral rights to my house (got 1100 bucks form my measly lot) wants to lease the mineral rights we own in East Texas close to Jacksonville. The funny thing is, we didn't know we owned any mineral rights there. It appears that when my dad sold his part to that place, he kept the mineral rights and when he died they came to me and my sisters.

So, the question is, how do you find out about mineral right ownership. I recall my grandmother getting royalty checks from an oil company that had drilled on the old farm in Mabank. Would those mineral rights come to us also?

Does anybody know how much they're getting per acre around Jacksonville for mineral rights leasing?

Not sure it has anything to with amount of land, more on what they are taking from the land, natural gas, oil, ect. 
Engineer not a lawyer so don't take this to the bank.

Well, I know that when I sold the mineral rights here in town (Grand Prairie) they gave an initial signing bonus dependent on acreage and a royalty of what they produce.

Negotiate, you should be looking for a higher figure per acre in the Haynesville Shale. 

Although it is only estimated to be the largest (multiple times more volume than Barnett), and there are other factors that affect it, it is an estimate made with much confidence.  Acreage in that area should be considered very valuable, but leasing has slowed down (and affected the $ a little bit) as they start to drill those previous leases.

Just do a little research, and talk to other landowners in the area.

Yeah, the Haynesville shale! They made a real big deal about it...had public meetings about what a boon to the area the proceeds would bring in...Had hour long shows on about the revenue it would produce  http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/99999999/SPECIALPROJECTS02/805040320 ...then when time came for companies to buy mineral rights to them, it all fell apart. A few people sold their rights at a good price, then the companies offered paltry sums! Bad taste in the mouths  of shreveporters there, lol.
