Lowering Shocks
« on: December 01, 2008, 08:27:45 PM »

For the second of my last two want to do projects, I want to lower the rear of my 1300R.

I have looked into progressive, but not sure about length. I think stock shocks are 12 inches. I am thinking about going down to 11 inches if possible.

I am concerned about doing this because I am not sure what impact this will have on handling, or if the lowering will cause the rear tire to rub when a passenger is in place.

Feel free to share any and all info about a similar project.

Thanks,

Reed

The stock length is 12.25". The biggest difference lowering the rear will make is that you will lose a bit of lean angle. Any time you lower or raise the suspension you affect the steering geometry, but the dynamics of handling on a cruiser are such that most people don't feel a difference unless they make a really large change.

Jim (Hipshot) fail to mention he replaced my shocks with Progressive 11".

I don't feel any difference. It rides the same as the stock shocks to me.

If BigDaddyReed isn't interested I may be. Been thinking about doing this at some point myself just deciding what project to do next.  Will these fit a 1300C and how much do you want for them? Also how old are they and in what shape?

Thanks,
Steve

They came off my 1300C so I would assume yes. They have about 3 months of use approx 3000 miles. still in great shape. I'll take 125$ to the first person wanting them. They're in Frisco, and I work in Dallas. Anything outside that will require shipping $$$

That's definitely a fair price. Right now I am in the middle of lookig for a Headlight Cowl. HDL has discontinued these for the 1300. If I don't find one in the next few weeks I may jump on these as my bext purchase.

Yes I am interested. Do you have a photo of your 1300C with them installed? If so, could you e-mail me that photo to randy@reedinspection.com?

Also, not too sure, but I think the shock on a 1300R and a 1300C are the same???

Thanks for your help.
