Big Fish / Little Boy
« on: July 12, 2006, 09:33:08 PM »

This was my neighbors grandson.
What a fisherman, aye   O0

Matthew caught this 6'4" 110 pound alligator gar at a family pond in Sargent around midnight.  It was caught on 15 pound test.  After a 30 to 40 minute fight to get it in, he was shocked at how big the fish was.
He sold it for $130.00.   O0

It reminds me of that scene in The Perfect Storm when they caught a shark...I would have run screaming from the dock after landing that...lol

Good job kid!

Good on ya boy!  I used to swim in the family ponds... If I'd have know there might be something like that in there, I probably would have thought twice!!!

Wow, I used to give those things away when I would catch them at my Grandfathers in Oklahoma.

I never realized there is a market for gar.
Did he sell it as food or what?

When I caught them as a kid, I'd just leave them on the bank to feed the varmits. I'd have run for mama if I'd caught something like this kid. Probably still would.

Just curious.

An old man bought the gar for food. He must have been a cajun. ;)
My grandfather use to cook gar when I was young. It didn't taste that bad as I remember, It just wasn't my favorite.  :P :P

Surprised that a fish that big didn't pull him in.  Good going, kid!
