Got Power?
« on: September 29, 2008, 09:22:06 AM »

One of my CenterPoint co-workers keeps a journal.  Here is an excerpt that I thought some may like.

"Below is an entry from my journal. It is from this morning and I felt called to share it with everyone. For those of you that are still working to help get Houston back on its feet, please take a deep breath and remember to let Christ’s light shine through you, even when you are being berated by an irate customer.

Have a wonderful weekend, and please feel free to share with anyone you think may enjoy it.

Okay, so it has been two weeks since we got hit by Hurricane Ike. A lot of long hours working accompanied by hearing and reading the complaints of those that are still without power have led me to notice a couple of things. First, is that most people have this tremendous ability to pull together during a crisis and to truly help their neighbor even if it may pose an inconvenience to them. I pray that they remember the way it made them feel, that the Lord was shining through them. The second thing I have noticed is that, what seems to be the rest of the people, seem concerned primarily with themselves. “when is MY power going to be back on”, “where is FEMA with MY supplies”, just to name a few comments that lack the profanity that seems to be embedded in the complaints. I think that the lack of understanding about how electricity is delivered to their homes leads to an accelerated level of anger. On my drive into work this morning it dawned on my that our relationship with God is very similar to how electricity is delivered to our homes.

God is the generator, it all starts with Him. Jesus is the road to God, so that makes Him like the Transmission lines. He carries God’s love to the substations, which are represented by the Church. The Church helps to step down this overwhelming love so that it can be delivered to the people. Preachers, pastors, and ministers are like the distribution lines, they get the message of love out to the public. Our Family and friends are like pole top transformers, they help break the message down even more. And as individuals we represent the homes. As long as we are ready to receive the power of God, it is there for us to have. We are all responsible for our individual homes and need to ensure that we are ready to receive that power by accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior. The infrastructure is there and ready to deliver the power to your home. The question is, are you ready to receive it?"
