A nice two and a quarter day ride!
« on: September 22, 2008, 12:27:48 AM »

Took off from The Colony around 4pm Friday and overnited in Texarkana.  Next day made our way north and hit hwy 310, 23, 62 on our way to my folks in Kimberling City, MO (near Branson).  Yesterday we hit 7, 16, 23, 310, and on 88 west of Mina, AR a large black bear ran in front of us :-)  Ground the hell outta the floorboards, but what a gas.  Glad I put a new front tire on Friday morning!  Little over 1200 miles with loads of smiles!  Made it home at 1145pm last night.  Time to crash!

Coulda' been a bear, but if it was big, black and moving fast, it was more than likely a hog. They have black bears up there, but if you barely got a good glimpse and it never stood up on two feet, more than likely it was a hog. A 500 pound hog is big. But we get lots of them up here. Not too many bears though.
You took the Talimena highway? Great scenery up there, if it isn't raining. Did you come back 259 to the south when you crossed into ok, or did you follow HWY 1 to Talihina and finish the talimena drive? Beautiful country there, Good roads too. You shoulda' hollered, I coulda' shown you around Texarkana.

Nope, it was a bear.  He was about 20 yards in front of the guy I was flying formation with (so to speak).  I was about 5 yards behind the first bike.  He just loped across the road.  I think my sideburner might of give him a fright.  After we came down the hill (mountain?)  we made a straight course for 69 and came out just north of Atoka (Stringtown?).  Loaped along at 80 or so.  It got dark as we came down that hill/mountain so we were on a mission to get home.

And 310 was actually 309.  I still get a big ol feces eating grin when I think about that ride!
