Darkside wearing thin
« on: September 12, 2008, 05:19:06 PM »

Yup. It's officially a slick now. Looks cool but rides on water like a jet ski.  :o

Approximately 33,000 miles on a $67 tire, (not bad). Now I'm going to do it again. Spent $96 this time. I wanted a softer rubber AND a higher speed rating.

I'll post a report in another 35,000 miles.  :)

If you put on a sportier tire, I don't think you'll get near 35k again...  but that's just a guess.  I have a REALLY sporty tire and I don't think I'll get 25k, maybe even only 20k...  I know the Metzler guys are still jealous, tho.  LOL

I think you're right. I'll be lucky to get 25k. This one looks like I can push it to the limit. Can't wait to pick it up Tuesday and do just that. I'll let ya know.

What's the new tire, Mike?

It's made by Capital and called a "Negotiator". Another 205-55-R16. It's more rounded on the edges than the last one.

The guy at the tire store in Gun Barrel City let me use his computer to browse different tires until I found one that I wanted to try.

Well... crap.  :-\

The "Capital" Negotiator didn't work. It was a 205-55-16 but a rain groove in the middle of the tread made it 3/4" too wide to fit.

I went with the same tire I had on it before, which is a Negotiator made by HTSU. It feels good to have rubber on the road again... O0

By the way, I faithfully kept 40 lbs. of pressure in my old car tire. It was worn much more thin in the middle so I'm going to try 36-38 lbs on this one.
