Please tell me I am not the only one who is over-insured. I say bring it on.  ;D

We made a 'minor' ahemmm, ahemmm adjustment after Rita.  Know right where you are coming from on this, James.

I'm new to the coast area (Spring, if you consider that "coast area"), and this will most likely be my first hurricane!  I thought Gustav was going to be it, but that was a non-starter.  We didn't even get any rain out of it...

So- for all you seasoned hurricane vets; anything specific that you would recommend?  Again, I'm in Spring, which is a good ways from the coast.  I don't expect much more than just a big storm this far inland.  Am I wrong?

Think "HOT Norther." Now add more rain and wind. "It's not that the wind is blowing, it's what's blowing in the wind that will kill you." Ron White. Pick up all the loose stuff you can. But mainly get all the beer into an igloo cooler with ice on them. You need survival rations.  ;) Afterwards, use the outdoor grill to cook until the lights come back on. (This is self-preservation. Pissed off wife in a hot muggy dark kitchen is NOT A GOOD IDEA. :o Theme from Psycho plays here.)

Afterwards, IF you get damage, your house insurance will claim it's from the flood waters and the flood insurance will claim it's from the hurricane and NEITHER ONE will pay out until THAT's settled.

Other than that, kick back relax and worry about the big blowhard on Saturday when he gets close enough to forecast a track. (personally, anything beyond 30 minutes is suspect with hurricanes.)

I don't care what other people think. They don't do it very often!
Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

I am 40 to 60 miles from the coast depending which part. Rita came in at Sabine Pass 45 miles SE of me. It took out 4 trees in my yard and demolished all my fence. Only one limb through the roof. I was without power for 15 days. HOT, MUGGY. NO BREEZE AT ALL DAYS! :'(

Rita winds or tornados she spawned did considerable damage as much as 60 miles North of here. Not to mention the local flooding from all the rain that fell to the North of us.

Looks like Ike will go West of us which is a good thing. But, he is still a long way away. Humberto was a thunderstorm when I went to bed but was a category one hurricane when I woke up. It's not smart to trust Mother Nature.

Regardless, I'll be right here.  O0

I don't think you will be in an evacuation area, but you could possibly get some decent rain and wind if it is a Cat 3 that hits right in Galveston area.

Looking like Corpus is dead in its sights now... better them than me, although I 'd rather it not be anyone.

I keep telling people that at work, but I think they actually ENJOY the thought/excitement of the storm actually hitting us.

If anyone living on or near the coast wants to park their bike out of harms way, I have room in my gararge for two more bikes.  My house is full with family, so I can not offer a place to stay.

Just let me know via PM.

I have room for bikes if some locals are in an apartment without a garage or something.

Feel free to call me.

832-452-0588 - Brock

Edit - Come to think of it I might be able to only get 1 or 2.  Jenn might be putting her car in the garage for the first time ever.  haha

I'll find out.
