2 Days and Counting!!
« on: September 03, 2008, 03:08:28 PM »

This Saturday/Sunday is soon approaching!  Awesome Cycles will have a new student that is anxious, excited and a wee bite nervous!  Half of my prayers I think will be answered....no rain in the forecast!  Hopefully, on Sunday evening, I will have passed the course and on Monday standing in line at the DMV waiting to take my written exam.  Once I have tackled that hurdle, then I will be qualified and legal to ride!  My bike awaits me!

Not easy to practice in grass, in a yard...but Randy has been letting me "tool" around the yard with his hand on the sissy bar waiting to grab the bike if I falter.  I am getting the "hang" of manuvering the clutch and doing the balancing act together...not as easy as I thought it would be!   Turning in grass is a real pain in the butt!  Hopefully, someday, I will get into second gear!!   O0

My thanks to everyone that has encouraged and helped me on this journey....Lucky, Lucky's Lover, Hipshot and many others with words of encouragement and support.

Say a prayer for me Friday night!!   O0

Saturday is easy. Sunday's when they take you out on the roads. NOT. LOL Just remember that 450 cc isn't as small as it sounds. Listen to the instructors. They have a lot of information that they need to give to you in a short time. After the class, go practice in a parking lot. Hopefully, your parking lot is closer than ours was. I had to ride my new 750 five miles down the 60mph county road to the post office so Connie and I could practice stopping, starting and turning. And then we found a little used road with some turns on it to practice riding through curves. Oh yeah, take the corners slower than Randy does and catch him on the straightaways.  O0 But don't worry, you'll be riding like a pro shortly.

Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

You will do fine...you are further along in knowing about bikes then I was when I took my course.  We will be rooting for you.

All will be fine........Like you mentioned half of your Prayers will be answered. NO RAIN.

I know what you mean about riding in the grass. But after you have been in the saddle riding around awhile you will be able to handle anything.

Good Luck on the MSF and I know you will pass the written test. If I can you can.........:)

My brother took the MSF at Awesome Cycle too. He said they were very nice and informative. By the way he was suppose to pick up his bike today. It's a 2007 white vtx1300C. I can't wait to see it.

Correction......Mitchell brought his bike home yesterday............

Good luck.  You will do just fine.  You don't have any bad habits to overcome.

Whatever you do, DON'T look at the bike.  Look through the turn, turn your head and look through the turn and press that wing (handlebar) down.

Remember - In reality - passing the class qualifies you to go somewhere and practice, practice, practice.  Riding 30MPH in a class is a LOT different than riding 70 on a highway.

Post up how it goes each day. O0 O0 O0

Now wait, wait, wait, wait, just a minuet here young man. I think you've already been taught that trick, maybe not on I 10, but you did a fine job in Fredericksburg of riding one handed holding a beer and holloring obscenities at the people on your sidewalk! ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the info....I have been told that many times and I am hoping that it has sunk in this brain!  I will let you all know how Sat goes, whether I get to go back on Sunday or they suspend me from class!!   I was told that they sent one lady home because she kept dumping the bike, they had had enough.  The instructors sent her home.  :-\   I visited with a couple of the instructors the other day and they told me I would have Louie as one of my instructors. They said that he is very good and alot of fun.

you'll do fine.  tell David and Louie hi.  They are a bunch of nuts, but serious when it comes to biking.  I had David as one of my instructors in '75 when I got this bike.  Already had my licence from 20+ years before but the wife wanted me to go thru the course in case I forgot something or learned a bad hbit or three... ;D. I will tell them "hi" for you!  The three that I met the other day seemed very nice and helpful....didn't get names but two guys, one younger and one older and a gal.  They told me I would have a blast with Louie!
