Victory Store in Arlington Gone
« on: July 25, 2008, 10:34:34 AM »

I work around the corner from the Victory Store off 360 and Randol Mill in Arlington and I noticed the signs were gone and the place was empty.  A sign on the door says they were bought out and are now a part of Iron Horse Cycles on the west side of Ft Worth.

Yes. I met the new owner's fiance a few weeks back. She said that they had just bought the Iron Horse store on Alta Mere and had also bought the inventory from the Arlington Victory store. She also said that someone else had just recently bought Iron Horse Motorcycles and was going to keep the manufacturing in Fort Worth. She had other details but I forget what all she said. I had heard that the Arlington Victory store was previously owned by son of the owner of Fort Worth Harley-Davidson.

The owner also owned a Harley dealership (I thought it was Longhorn) and really didn't seem to take the Victory shop very seriously, almost as an afterthought with no real pasion for the bikes. It's a shame, Victory makes some real nice bikes and they're pretty bullet proof. They ranked highest in JD Powers, yet they seem to have a problem keeping a realiable dealership in this area. It's amazing that there are some areas that are way smaller than the metroplex that have three or four Victory dealers doing booming business, yet an area the size of the metroplex can't seem to keep one in business in spite of the fact that there are a lot of victory owners in the area (me included). When I worked at Strokers (easyriders then) we carried the Vic line and were the leading retailer in the nation. Now Rick has picked up the Victory line again which I think is a good thing for their line. As ugly as it is (the looks are growing on me) the new Vision is a really great ride and I'm considering one unless Honda comes out with a VTX Interstate.

I wouldn't. I put 1450 miles on one last month, and I wouldn't trade my FJR for 5 of them.  :P

Humphry just opened a Victory shop here. Right next door to his Harley shop which is right next door to his Honda shop. From the road, the VICS look pretty good.

I assume you meant you would NOT trade your FJR

Well, to each his own. I have had too many knee surgerys to ride with my knees bent all the time liek the FJR although if I could I wouldn't mind having one. For me personally though, the Vision was the most comfortable touring bike I've ever rode right out of the box.

Correct, thanks for the catch! And you are 100% correct, to each his own.  O0

How do you like your FJR? Any dislikes? Did you do any comparisons? I was at the Kawasaki shop a couple fo days ago and sat on a Concours and it felt real nice. I still would have to find a way to straighten out my legs on occasion because they really hurt on this old man after a couple of hundred miles. I think I liked the way the Connie was compared to the honda, I haven't got to spend too much time sitting on an FJR. Any bike i look at would have to be exceptional to make me get rid of my Valkyrie.

Well, the only dislikes on the Feejer have been taken care of by aftermarket parts, which are called "farkles" in the sport touring world. (I don't know why...) It has a tendency to make the trottle handle numb, which can be due to rider posture, handlebar position, three throttle springs, grip diameter, etc... I fixed mine, for the most part, by using Grip Puppies, a CrampBuster, and a few weeks ago, installing Heli bars, a kind of riser setup that not only moves the bars back and up, but solidifies the connection to the steering tubes. The stock seat wasn't the best, (a common complaint on all bikes...), so I sent mine out to Bill Mayer Saddles in Ojai, CA to be rebuilt. And that's about it.

The likes on it are 4 cylinder vs. 2, (never going back), which leads to a much smoother riding experience, styling, power that is right there, right now, and riding a bike that doesn't make me feel like my AARP card will be in the mail anyday now... (although at 47, my AARP card will be in the mail anyday now!).

One of the 4 bikes on our ride in Michigan was a 2000 Valkyrie, with 10K miles on it. Very sweet bike, and I have been a fan of those for a long time. I don't know if I had one of those, that I would sell it to get a Feejer, but it's really not the same type of bike. If you ever get the itch to add a sport tourer to the garage, do yourself a favor and ride the Yamaha. I think it's the best of the three.  O0

Ironhorse Bought the Victory store in Arlington. They are temporairly in the ironhorse dealership on campbowie and business 183 by Honda west...Well across the street. They are ,ironhorse and Victory, moving to the OLD hd longhorn dealership in Grand Prarie.
heard it from the horses mouth. Couple of months, having a huge sale on their leathers, boots and helmets and all accessories so they don't have to move it.

Cooool, it will be nice to have a Vic shop in my own backyard again for stuff. I hope they have a good mechanic, and I hope he is familiar with the older Vics.
