The gearing is different.  Different gearing is better or worse depending on a person's driving style.  My impression of the 13 on my 18 is that 1st is "eh", 2-4 are a LOT more fun to run in, and 5th gear seems more like a 6th gear... lower RPMs at a given speed cruising the highway.

I think LESS 1300 guys run 18 drives, and I don't know the advantages, but those that do it seem happy.

Supposed to have more torque at the low end for the 1300 guys.  When I sent mine out for a chrome exchange I was asked which one I wanted back, 1300 or 1800.  Shoulda went ahead and said 1800!  :'(

they also say it is supposed to correct the "error" in the speedo. i did some comparisons with a tach and my gps, a before and after comparison, this is what i came up with. this is on my 03 1800 C with the 1800 drive my odometer was perfect to the gps, speedo was 5 mph fast, 70 indicated was actual 65 gps. with the 1300 drive my odometer is now 9.5 miles low for every 100 miles driven by gps. :o this means when the gps shows 100 miles the odometer is showing just a tad over 90 miles. i guess you could call this a good thing as far as resale goes. now the speedo is 5 mph slow, 70 indicated is actually 75 gps. as far as rpm's go I don't remember the exact rpm's but the difference at gps indicated 70 mph was about 300 rpms +/- 50 rpms. the 1800 drive is a 2.8 while the 1300 is a taller 3.1. this is just my set-up as it seems every bike is different, go figure.

Morgan, I talked to HICKersontl, he's interested, but I didn't know what advantages other than off the line pickup, or even how much of that to expect. Do any of you 1300 guys out there have first hand info on how much difference this will make...like...is it really worth the trouble?
I've talked to quite a few 1800 guys with 1300 drives, but none the other way around.

I think that was Trent's. Or was it Stever's? One of the two...

I had BigDog's 1800 gears in mine. Freakin LOVED the newfound torque. My numbers were a bit more dramatic on the speedo than Jay's, tho. My speedo showed 75 and I was going 63. Bigdog was kind enough to swap me back when the gas prices went Ape- Cranberries (or whatever this dang board changes curse words to).

If MPG is not an issue and you have a 1300 and want some free low end torque, DO IT!!

interesting stuff in those threads... maybe I'll keep a hold of my drive and just polish it and have it ready if I want to swap back....  I dunno.  :)  I'm digging the 1300 drive a lot, and it's chromed.... :D
