Quite a bit of good advice here, hard to add anything pertinent.

There are still some very good deals on left over 13's out there, maybe even a few left over 18's.
The most bike for my buck was one of the reasons I ended up with a left over '06 1800 vs 1300.
A left over X may be a better value vs a 1100 shadow or similar if you can get a smokin deal.(Assuming there are no left over Shadows)

Also, check the net for some prices. (new left over's) It may be well worth your time and effort to drive a few hundred (or more) miles to save 1,200 to 1,500 $ or more.

On another board, A fellow X rider purchased an new 06 1800 C spec 3 in FL for 8,800 plus T, t, and L, etc
Same bike at Wild West goes for 10,999   $2,200 would pay for a trip to FL!   8)

1300's are for GIRLS!!!!!

And green is for sissies!!!!!

Now, back to the original post...

I debated over which bike to get...a 750 Shadow or the 1300.  This is my first street bike, so I opted to go with the larger bike and grow into it.  I did grow up riding dirt bikes, so I had some experience.  But I knew for sure that I was going to buy a brand new bike, and I didn't want to get something that I would regret sooner than later.  After one week on the 1300, I knew I had made the right decision.  And, or course, I got the right color, too!  ;)  It's a classic now!  8)

Wow, there is a wealth of info in this thread.
As it turns out Andrew (the bike shopping son that prompted me to start this thread) has bought his first new bike.  He found a used 1800C that is in very nice shape.  It was recommended to us via hipshot so I am confident that it is a good choice.  Andrew had been riding Wayne's old Vulcan 750 and I was very impressed to see how quickly he adapted to the 1800.  I've given him this forum link...hopefully he will sign on and share his adventures.

When I decided to purchase a VTX, it was hard to choose between the 1300 and 1800.
I am happy that I went with the 1300R. Can't wait to pick it up. (This Saturday)

Just three quick comments.

1.The Shadow Sabre 1100 has front and rear disks. No drum.

2.I bought the 1300C 4 years ago and I have not "outgrown" it yet. And I've had bigger bikes. To me it was the better bike.

3.Even with my fat Cranberries on the 1300, an 1100 Shadow will not compete with it. Mama has tried on a couple occasions to dust me, and each time she was put in her place. After 60mph, it's not even a race anymore.

BTW, mama has now ridden my 1300, and the Sabre is officially for sale.

So I take it she's getting an 1800?!?!  Whose butt's gettin' smoked now?  :o :o ;D
