Lowers thread......
« on: June 30, 2008, 05:45:17 PM »

I'm sure I read a nice thread about some nice polished (on one side) stainless steel lower air deflectors, but I'm havin' one hello of a time findin the damb thang.  Anybody?

I ordered  a set of JET-LD18 lower deflectors from Direct Line and they arrived bent, and I'm not sure they were the same shape as the ones in the thread.  Way to go UPS.  Bent both stainless steel plates.  Batrastards.

Now I'm gonna hafta drive to Branson, MO with blurry vision, or lean way fwd to get into some clean air.  Waaaa, Waaaa :-)

At least AR 23 will keep my speed down a bit.  That's one curvy road!

I think those on Direct Line are the same ones I have - Jett Ink...  I don't recall seeing a thread on here about them though.   The only ones beside Jett Ink's that I've ever seen are plastic...  Except for these on planovtxer's 1800... http://www.texasxriders.com/index.php?topic=8022.0  Dunno where he got those, I've never seen any like them, and I looked hard before I bought mine a while back...

Don't guess I have any decent pics of mine handy, I haven't had them very long.  This is the only one I could find that shows them at all...

the lowers you ordered are in fact the jett inc. lowers, i have identical ones on my 1800 C. the only other lowers that are polished stainless are the national cycle shield lowers. they only work with the national cycle shield. just out of curiosity, when you say the lowers were bent do you mean just the lower itself or were the mounts that go around the forks bent as well? if just the lower was bent and not the mounts shoot me a PM. Thx guys!  I must be having dementia again if there's no thread  ::)
UPS is picking them up this AM and I'm about to hit the road (for work) for about 13 days, so hopefully we can get this resolved.
Yep, just the polished SS is bent (stretched) and I'm gonna be kinda anal and insist I get a nice "virgin" pair from 'em.  I've got a shear and a brake at the hanger and could probably copy them, but I'm way too lazy in my old age!
Hopefully those thangs will push the air around my knees a bit so it doesn't come up the front of my helmet and rattle my eye sockets.  I can deal with it during daylight, but it gets hairy at nite.

Yep, they eliminate most of the turbulent air that gets sucked up from underneath the windshield and hits you in the face...  not to mention they add a acre and a half of "chrome" to the front of the bike...

Finally got the Jet Inc lowers installed this evening and went out for a test drive with my 1/2 helmet and reading glasses.

Without the lowers my glasses would just about fly off and I'd get crap from the road blowing up under the glasses and getting into my eyes.

Now I can hit 90 and just have a bit of a breeze blowing on me.  Before, if I didn't lean forward my vision would blur from my head rattleing,

Night and day!

Heading up to AR=7 and 23 tomorrow.  Getting a new Avon front tire on in the morning.  The Metzler was starting to cup and I need all the rubber I can get on the road :-)

Thanks for your replies.

The clamps could be a problem installing if you don't have experience with Adel clamps.  I used needle nose pliers and a punch to align the hole as I squeezed the clamp together.  Got the screw in then got the washer on the back and held the clamp together by hand and put the needle nose jaw on the washer and resqueezed the clamp together.  Added the acorn nut and had it all installed in a half hour.  Btw if you get the clamp lined up where you want it then tighten the two clamp screws all the way down then the lower's attach holes in the clamp will line up.

I would sure like some lowers for my 1300C but it looks to me like everything I've seen so far will only fit the inverted struts and not work on the C struts.  Can anyone fill me in on this?

I am in the same boat... 1300c, and i am wanting lowers.  The memphis shade lowers, using the 1300c mounting kit, seem to have an arm that curves down and around the stock turn signals, and the lowers mount right under the signals.  MS lower mounting instructions for 1300c

Did the Arkansas run and put 1200 miles on in two and a half days.  The lowers worked wonders!

Sure roughed up the running boards on those corners O0

Sounds like good times!   Glad the lowers worked out for you.
