Inspection Sticker Plate
« on: June 12, 2008, 07:31:34 AM »

I wanted to get rid of the stupid plastic dealer plate, but was looking for solutions that don't cost a ton. I mean, after all it's just relocating one sticker that is the hard part.

I found an inspection sticker plate... just like the $40 Kury one... but for $9.95 at d2moto.com . Then I went to Ace Hardware and bought some chrome bits for another $10-12. And with the helpful advice from my fellow X'ers I got the useless helmet lock off. That little plate that the helmet lock was set on is a perfect place for the inspection sticker I think.

I got the inspection plate from d2moto.com and it really does look just like the $40 Kury one.

Looks nice Wayner...so is the license plate still in the back, just with no plastic frame?

Lucky,

Thanks. I'm pretty proud of it (it's the first change to the stock bike).

 :) :) :)

It's in the back for now yeah... until I can find a better solution. Side mounts for license plates aren't cheap... then again, this is an expensive hobby I suppose. hehe

I am focussing on comfort and safety first, then luxuries.

Zoomie, thanks also!

if you'd like I can post a parts list of what all I used.

FYI - I used to have mine like this mounted off the bottom of the rear shock but it would not pass inspection. The inspector in Plano wouldn't pass it unless it was facing the back of the bike.

I put a right angle plate at the bottom of the shock and that worked until I put my leatherlike saddle bags on and they bumped it and bent it up.

I now have a nice chrome plate that goes on top of the shock and faces backwards. No picture yet, but was made by German Pete.

I'd ask him to show me where in the book it says that the sticker has to have a certain facing.  But I'm an ornery bastard.

Interesting because they face forward on cages.  :D

Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

I think it all depends on what kind of day the inspector is having... ::)

there is some LOGIC if they're required to be visible TOGETHER from the same area.  Like it would be stupid to have a rear facing inspection sticker and a front facing registration.  The cop would have to was 180 degrees to get them both to ensure compliance.  But if my recollection is correct, the inspection sticker is required to be "NEAR" the license plate.  There's NOTHING that says it has to be rear-facing.

And if you don't go REAL fast, there's no requirement for it to be up to date, either. ::) ::)

I have always been told, and believed, that the sticker had to be visible from the back of the bike.  That being said, the printed information says nothing about being 'visible from the back'.........I have to agree with Morgan.  Here is a snip from the Texas DPS site:

"Inspection. All motor vehicles registered in Texas, including motorcycles, motor scooters, and mopeds, must be inspected each year at an official motor vehicle inspection station. When the motorcycle passes inspection, an approved certificate must be placed near the rear license plate. These certificates are good for one year from the month of inspection."

Good enough for me!!  I will be removing that POS aluminum back plate now!  O0

Never have had any problem with anyone with where I have my sticker. I had Torque cut me out a plate and have it on the right side swing arm. Bolts to the front brake line bracket. Fits perfect!

Picture of my old bike and have sticker in same place on the newer one!

Damn Fatboy, do you ever ride that bike  ??? ??? That is the prettiest shinest rear wheel area I have ever seen...looks like it has been sitting in a glass case.
