SPEEDOMETER TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: April 27, 2008, 09:50:31 PM »

I am wondering if anyone else out there has had any problems with thier speedometer? I have a 2007 VTX 1300R and sometimes when I am cruising at highway speeds (70-80mph) it will just drop to around 30mph,then slowly come back up to the cruising speed, which is about 5-7 mph slow anyway.
So......is anyone out there having or had this problem? Suggestions,Solutions?

Check your battery ground connection and the speedometer connector plug underneath the front of the gas tank on the right side...

What he said. Mine did the same thing and after I tightened the battery cables it never happened again.

I have had the duplicate issue.  If the battery fix is not the trick, you will end-up at the dealer like I had to do.  They had to replace the speedo due to a faulty sensor/sensor unit.

Is it normal for the VTX 1800R speedometer to be 5 mph off?

They're generally a little on the happy side, but occasionally one is pretty close.

Mine has been running slow by 5 mph. Would my warranty cover this or is this something else?

I just talked to Nathan at Maxin Motorsports  and he said they are always off by 3 to 7 mph. So I guess from now on I'll have to watch my speed since I am running 5mph slow.

Maybe you can use that to beat a speeding ticket...

Good to see you back on the board Bill...  I took your advice and took my seat to Shawn Cook.  Best $125 I ever spent.  My a$$ can outlast a tank of gas now without going numb.  My nicotine urges are the range limiting factor now, but I installed a cigarette lighter so I don't necessarily have to stop to light one.   Just the lighter looks like something Jethro would have installed on Jed's truck...  Maybe I'll get one of them purty chrome ones next...

Yes I know exactly what you mean. I recently went on a trip to Eureka Springs,Hot Springs,Mena Ark. and had no complaints from my bottom.
