Guys, 

I did not mean to start a religious argument about Mormons.  I don't know anything about the beliefs.  I was just talking about the LEADERS not needing to have more than 1 wife to be able to have the time to run the place.

I am in the process of becoming the pastor of a church to which I have been called to preach in the past year and a half since God healed Mikayla. 

I am sure that I will eventually learn more about others beliefs, but for now, I know that my wife keeps me pretty busy with all of her needs, and my children cover the time that she does not.

The husband of one wife verses are:

1 Timothy 3:2
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

1 Timothy 3:12
12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

Titus 1:6
6 An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

Polygamy was a widespread practice in the Bible.  The limitations above were placed on the leaders of the church and not the congregation.  It was very common to have several wives in the new and old testament. 

Look what happened to Solomon.

1 Kings 11:3,4

3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.

 4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.


Too many distractions in your life can take you away from God.  Whether it be wives, money, work, motorcycles.....(I know that last one hit too close to home)

Actually, I believe in the verses you quoted, that the author is saying "husband of one wife" in reference to a man who has never  left his wife and taken another (what we refer to in modern times as divorce). But then again, If a man was to leave his wife (or vice versa) he was not to marry again lest he commit adultry on his wife. You see, in the bible, marriage is FOREVER. Therefor, the was no divorce, so if you left one wife, and took another, you were in fact poligymous. Also, in biblical times there was no marriage cerimony as we know it. When a man chose a wife, the marriage was legal in God's eyes at the moment they engaged in the sex act. By this very token, if a man were to have sex with a prostitute, he had in fact taken her as another wife. So really, if you translate these biblical views on poligamy to modern day, poligamy is still rampant. And not so much in any one religious or non religious group.

I agree with that statement but think that it would actually apply to both. 

Having only 1 wife (monogomous) and 1 wife based on divorce as well.

One last comment one th Mormon thing. Putting Romney in the same boat with this group from Eldorado would be like putting Huckabby in the same boat as Hillsboro BAPTIST Church.

These are offshoot sects operation under similar names, but they are not the same, and should not be confused as such.

Regarding polygamy....

As if one wife isn't enough to deal with, anybody that wants additional is nuts.  Polygamists are nuts. That's why they dress funny and have that strange stare and live out 50 miles from San Angelo.  All the Bible stuff is a side issue.

We figured they were crazy, and turns out they are, but nothing could be done to stop them legally at the time, and they were a scary bunch if you went by the place to mess with 'em.  I tell ya, don't go back roading and throw beer bottles at the gate more than once in the same night...

Why polygamy is not God's Will or intention for human sexual relationships:
You can only leave your parent's household once!
Notice that God's definition of marriage involves a man "leaving his father and mother" to be united to his wife. Once a man has left his father and mother's authority and household to marry, he cannot leave that household again! This means that when a man first marries a woman, he does so upon leaving his parent's authority. If he were to subsequently marry another woman, he would not be leaving his parent's authority again, and thus would not fulfill the definition of marriage as outlined in Matthew 19 and Genesis 2:24.
God gives us only two other circumstances where a man can marry another woman:
1) If his wife dies [see Romans 7:2-3]
2) If his wife commits adultery [see Matthew 19:8-9]

Examples in Scripture:
Adam and Eve:
God created Adam, and provided for him a single wife. He did not provide multiple wives for him, nor do we have any evidence that Adam ever had another wife. This original marriage relationship powerfully exposes God's intent for mankind's marriage relationships.

Noah:
Called a "preacher of righteousness" [2 Peter 2:5], Noah was the only family head who was spared during the destruction of the Great Flood. He had but one wife.

Job:
God called Job "My servant". Though Job was very rich and considered "the greatest man among all the people of the East", he had only one wife.

Isaac:
The child of the promise had but one wife, Rebekah.

Moses:
Of all the Old Testament saints, Moses was the closest to God. He spoke to God face to face as a man speaks with his friend [Exodus 33:11]. Moses is also regarded as the greatest of the Old Testament prophets. God Himself even singled out Moses as a special prophet since He spoke to him face to face rather than revealing Himself in visions [Numbers 12:6-8]
Moses had only one wife, Zipporah [Exodus 2:21]

Joseph and Mary:
The Lord's earthly parents are a prime example of a monogamous relationship.

Scriptural monogamy:
"Each man should have his own wife (singular word), and each woman her own husband (singular word). [I Corinthians 7:2]
God's standard of monogamy for Christians is an absolute requirement for anyone who wants to be a deacon in the church: "A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well." [I Timothy 3:12]
