Rear tire info
« on: April 03, 2008, 09:15:34 PM »

Thinking about getting a bigger rear tire, what is the biggest size I can put on my standard stock VTX1300C without having to modify current drive and rim? or is it not worth trying to do? Current rear tire is a 170, can someone educate me on this....

I just put a 200 on my R...

Since the sidewalls are soo damn tall, it really ain't worth it. You visually really can't tell the difference.

A 205/65/15 Douglas rain and snow tire is the biggest you can put on a 1300 to date.

Just read http://vtxdarksiders.forumotion.com/vtx-1300-tech-f11/twin-s-wideside-mod205-on-a-stock-rim-t220.htm and you'll learn about what to expect.

Is a 205/55/16 bigger than a 205/65/15?  LOL

205=width in MM
55/65= heigth in MM. The number 55 say, indicates the tire is 55% as tall as it is wide.
15= Rim diameter

The 65 would be a little taller than the 55.

Tire info:

Tires are round.
Cornbread are square.

That concludes today's tutorial on tires. Thank you.

Re-read that Snake.  I know what the numbers mean.  I know that 65 is bigger than 55.  But I ALSO know that 16 is bigger than 15.  So given they're both 205... which is bigger?  65/15 or 55/16?

Actually the operative word should be taller, rather than bigger, or larger circumfrence. The65/15 will have a circumfrence of 80.1 inch, while the 55/16 will have a circumfrence of 78.2 inches. Yeah, I hadn't paid attention to the 15/16 differential earlier, and didn't fully understand what you were asking. Hope that helps. The shorter tire, the 55/16 will help alleviate some of the speedometer error on the X, by 1.4mph compared to the other taller tire.

I have WORSE speedo error with my 55/16 on my C than I had before it with a stock MC tire size.  I'm about 10% off now.
