Windshield
« on: March 16, 2008, 07:03:51 PM »

Can someone with a 1800 F Model give me some help in picking out a windshield. After riding in the horrible wind today I think that I will get one real soon but I dont know which one to get.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You really need to look at what's available. It's kinda hard for us to know what you'd like best. I'll suggest that you check out Memphis Shades windshields on HDL's site.

I totally agree with having a windshield, but there are times when a windshield won't help at all.  Today Wayne and I were riding home and we had crosswinds that I thought were going to blow us off the road.  It was really really tough.

My bike came with one of the low ride windshields. So when we get wind in El Paso( I mean WIND) I just kick my legs back on the passenger pegs and lean forward and I ride it like a Sport bike. Helps out a lot. O0

I got the Hondaline windshield for my F when I bought the bike.  It helps somewhat, but you still get quite a bit of buffeting.  I am 6 ft, but most of my height is from the waist up, so I tend to sit up higher than a lot of folks.  I've heard that adding lowers will help with the turbulance.

Like Lucky said, no windscreen is going to help much in high crosswinds.  But if you get a stong wind behind you, you can get a sail affect, and save money on gas!! :D

21" Memphis Shade w/lowers, you can always cut it down if need be after you adjust it a few times for the angle that suits you.

When I first got mine, contrary to what everyone told me, I wanted to look through it. Then I had a little uh oh and scratched the top of the shield pretty bad. So, I cut the scratched part off and wound up looking over it anyway. Now I can't understand how I ever liked looking through it. Of course I use to clean the windshield every once in a while too.

Get the one designed by Honda, it works the best on most X models.  The after market don't deflect the win like they should.

How do you measure a windshield? Is it from the cross bar up?

The height measurement is from the headlight cutout to the top of the shield, youngster!

I have a 2006 VTX 1800F.  I have the Honda Direct Line Boulevard shield bracket but ordered a replacement shield that is a couple of inches taller that the short boulevard shield from Honda.  I look directly over the shield and love it.  Here is the website for the replacement shields:

Thanks for the help. After reading and doing some checking I went ahead and ordered the Memphis Shades Fats 19 inch. Time will tell if I made the correct choice.

Thanks again,

Doug
