While the problem is not really common, several people have had that part stick and keep the starter cranking. This happens with other bikes also, not just Hondas. A friend's BMW did it awhile back (K1200S), and we had no idea where to look for it. The fact that it was dark wasn't a huge help. Anyway, you might want to locate it for future reference, because if it sticks the ONLY remedy is to disconnect it from the battery. You could easily overheat and ruin your starter while pulling the seat, ECU, battery cover, and ground. It's quicker to go straight to the solenoid (or magnetic starter switch), and knowing where it is and what it looks like helps a little.
Glad you got your bike up and running Mike. Mine actually left it's parking spot yesterday. I have a stupid question. Humor me, I just woke up, but couldn't a person pull one of the main fuses to kill power to the starter? Just curious. Bill
