Amsoil
« on: January 27, 2008, 10:16:44 AM »

Looking for some Amsoil. I work close to downtown Dallas and live at Cedar Creek Lake. I can get it at the lake but it's expensive.

What I do is buy a case directly off their website, and I buy the Preferred Customer 6-Month Membership program.

Normally, the case is $109.20, but when you purchase the 6-month membership for $10, the case drops down to $78.00...a net savings of $21.20.

I still use the Honda oil filters, and I get those from HDL!

I just went onto their website to simulate an order, and they have a warehouse in Dallas where you can pickup your order and save the shipping cost!  I wish they had one here in Houston!

You still pay tax, but the total is $94.24...not bad for a case of Amsoil!  O0

Looks like the warehouse is located in Arlington. I know of a few waterin' holes in that area, so it's not too far away.  ;D

Thanks MRVTX! I'll give that a try. It cuts the cost of what I can get it for here by 1/2.  O0

I'll be sure to bring you a beer or two to BBT V this year.

Yup! Right there in Arlington behind the GM plant. In and out of there in less than 5 minutes. Almost spent another $100 on Amsoil hats and shirts... ;D

So, am I to assume that Amsoil is the oil of choice for the VTX's?  It seems to have all you guys excited.  What is so special about it over other oils?

If you read up on their website - www.amsoil.com -, they compare their oil to several others out there, and in all of their tests, their oil outperforms the others quite substantially.  It is a full synthetic oil, and most of us changed over to it after our first or second oil change.  I didn't switch until my 8000-mile oil change, but I'm glad I did.  I can double (and I have several times) the change interval from 8,000 to 16,000 miles, and I've had no problems at all.

The VTX "loves" Amsoil. I changed over at 8 thousand miles, (thanks to Tapper). It's eliminated the annoying "clank" when shifting gears and lasts about twice a long as conventional oil. Less maintenance, more riding.  :)

For some good info on this, read Tapper's article here:

It's a long read, but very informative.

Now I know where it is.
Road trip!   :D
