Trailering Question!
« on: January 21, 2008, 09:27:58 AM »

If Iam going to haul my bike on a trailer would it be wise to cover it up while pulling it in bad weather?? Or no cover and just let it get wet?? Never hauled bike in bad weather so any feedback would be good.  Thanks  8)

You'll find folks who cover and those who don't...  :-\

Careless covering (poor tie down, wrong placement or ropes, etc.), or the use of the wrong kind of cover, can scratch plastic, chrome, ruin paint, wear spots on seats, backrests, and mess up your bags.  :o

Unless you've got an enclosed trailer,  ::) IMHO it's best to tie it down well and give it a wash once you arrive (if needed).

You take a big chance of the tarp scratching your paint unless you cover your bike first with a big blanket and then put the tarp on real tight. The bike is basically weather proof anyway and unless your just worried about your seat, which you can remove in a couple of minutes, I wouldn't even bother thinking about a tarp cover.

I've used a lowboy and I now have a covered trailer. Two things I would add that you probably already know is use a wheel chock and add an extra tie down through front wheel to the front of trailer. If your using a lowboy, depending on your ramp length, you may have to raise the front of trailer to make sure you have enough clearance when loading the bike. I only have about 3.5 " on mine.

Not at all ;D ;D  Bought the lowboy used from a friend and the covered trailer (6x12) cheap when Pep Boys discontinued them. Just got lucky O0

Sure would like to have an inclosed 6x12 for some odd reason. Does U-Haul auction off their old trailers after a certain length of time?  That would probably be the last straw my wife would tolorate around here anyway.

Since I can't afford a garage, I now have a trailer/garage. I guess that's better than just having a cover on the bike and much cheaper. ;D
