What Plugs?
« on: December 09, 2007, 09:51:25 PM »

Coming up on the 8K service and wanted to see what the forum is recommending for plugs?  Irridium? Bosch +4s? NGK? Any help is greatly appreciated.

How much do those Bosch plugs run?

I think they just went up in price to about $6.00/plug.

haven't tried the bosch's so no comment there. but as far as the stock(irridium) plugs are concerned, if after inspection there is nothing found to be wrong with them just clean 'em up and put them back in. the irridiums will last a long time. i've got 26k on mine with no problems, been cleaned 2 or 3 times. good luck and ride safe.

At about 14k I pulled the stock NKG's out and there wasn't really anything left of them to clean. The electrode was burned off even with the insulator and I was even amazed that it even ran. It never missed or ran bad, I just thought it might be time to check or replace them. Well I went to the closest stealer (Waco) and was going to get a set of NKG's and when the partsperson told me the price was $20.00 apiece, I asked directions to the bathroom and then left. I ordered a set of Bosch from HDL even though I'm sure somebody stocks them locally in the metromess but just didn't want to drive 180 miles to try and find or get some. I had heard the 4419's were good and the price couldn't be beat so to say. I didn't see any extra boost of horsepower, added fuel mileage or quicker starts but that was 13k miles ago and it's still running good. I was impressed with the Bosch when I got them because of the ground prongs, stock has 1 and the bosch has 4, may make no difference at all, but sure looked more impressive anyway!!

I got the Bosch's cheaper than that at either O'rielly's or Auto Zone... can't remember which, but I would bet on Orielly's...  I like 'em!

Yeah, I let the Stealer talk me into replacing the plugs at 8000 miles because I thought they knew better....  Just another job to be nervous about until I actually do it.  LOL

Thanks for all the replies.  I pulled the plugs today and they look pristine.  Maybe a set of 4419's are in the future, but not anytime soon.  Cheers. DR
