final drive swap
« on: October 21, 2007, 05:59:36 PM »

any of you 1800 boys want to do a swap for a 1300. this seems to be getting pretty popular on the vtxoa board. I'd like to try it out. I want the faster take offs, and you guys want the lower rpm's at higher speeds.

well that'll save both of us the time in polishing it again because IT WAS A Buck Rogers to polish it! I did it all by hand and still on the bike. are you going to the LSR. maybe we could do it there. I ride every day back and forth to work, so I wouldn't be able to ship it.

I'm going on 28,000 miles

So a even trade , your 1300 for my 1800? I have about 4500 miles on mine.  How big of a deal is it to do the swap? How long should it take?   I'm willing........I think.

I've done this swap. It freakin' rocks on my 1300.

I have no need to go 100 mph, but I like getting to 80 real damn fast....and this sure did help.

Throws the speedo off by 8 mph, though.

Any idea how to fix that?

you can buy a speedo healer.  i read somewhere there were shops that can do it for cheaper though...

how much did you actually lose on top speed?  mine shows lined at 130(not healed) with still a bit to give.  i dont really have a real need to go that fast, but i do it quite often anyway....  just dont want to lose too much off the top.
