Anyone got any advice on comfortable full face helmets that run larger in size???
for example... I've tried the XXXL helmets offered by some other manufacturers such as HJC and others and they haven't been as big as my old KBC XXL.

Or does anyone have any tricks for avoiding or minimizing the hot spots???

I would think that you have an elongated head, based on your hot spot issue.  The best thing to do is go to a store that has many brands/sizes and try them all on.  If you're close to Houston, there are a few places that have alot of helmets.  Honda of Houston has a great selection, and Cycle Gear has a ton of helmets.  I know there are other Cycle Gears out there...http://www.cyclegear.com/store.cfm

I have a somewhat elongated head...very narrow, but longer from front to back.  The only two helmets I've owned were an Arai (formerly) and a Scorpion (currently).  I have no issues with hotspots with either one, but I have tried on others that do give me that problem.

I am familiar with Arai but don't have the $300 - $500 to drop on a new helmet at the moment. I am not familiar with the Scorpion helmets. I will check them out.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Half helmets are for half-wits!  ;D

Take a look at the "damage zone" for anything less than a full face hemlet (below). The graphic shows the distribution of impact locations on helmets during accidents. Consider this sketch when choosing a helmet:

Ride safe -- go back to your full-face!!!    O0

Great post Pug...I love graph's and stat's.

The first time I went down wearing a 3/4 helmet: 5 stitches on my left eyebrow 10.1% ( stitches on the bridge of my nose 4.95% average and 15 stitches on the left/mid of my chin 17.3% average. first impact was left forehead 10.1%.

I wear a full face now.

I love you too Marigold. Nuf said?

crack,  I have a Shoei RF-1000 Full face that is vented front to back and on the chin.
When I ride with the sheild up (sometimes at slower speed to get more air
to my face) it blocks the wind from the vents, but then when I put the
visor down you can really feel cold streaks of air start pushing through those
vents front to back.  I really like it.  I've been thinking about a half hemet a lot
recently.  I may not purchase one now.

Howdy y'all!

This is all very eye opening. I've always worn full face helmets in the past. I just recently bought a half helmet [my first] and so far have been enjoying it but I certainly don't want anything to happen to my beautiful face.  ;D ;D ;D

Crack,
not to be a smart Cranberries, but is the hot spot caused from the wind or your odd sized melon?
If from wind what about getting a windshield if you don't have one?
would that help any?

No, of course not, was I talkin' 'bout Jim!  ::)

Regarding full-face choices, I've got a similar problem with "melon head" syndrom. The answer was a Shoei RF1000. I was also able to use an ice cream scoop and "spoon in" my Symax to fit without the hot spot. It took about three hours to get'er done, but worked great.

And I wasn't trying to be pugnacious earlier...just like friends (and even Harley folk) to ride safe!   ;D ;D ;D ;D

well I think I am going to a full face helmet after what just happened.
The insurance company took all my gear to destroy so while I'm re-building I will be looking for a full face

Skipppy, I've had 2 of these.

I really like this model. Flip face w/ 3 air intakes. 2 on top, and 1 at the mouth.

I really like when they say: Adjustable chin vent directs air upwards across the inside of the shield to help prevent fogging.

My glasses and shield always seemed to have fogged up on my GSXR this one I will have to check out

It still fogs when it's too humid outside.

Lori and I just recently purchased the Scorpion EXO-400 helmets, and they work very well in preventing fogging.  Neither one of us can get the things to fog up, even trying to breathe really hard when it was colder out.  The price can't be beat, either.  Go to Cycle Gear or Honda of Houston and start trying on all the helmets that those two stores have.  Honda of Houston has the Scorpion models.

sorry Marigold for highjacking, but this is good info to have if looking for a helmet
or to consider why full is better than 1/2 and 3/4
