Old Subject?
« on: May 23, 2007, 06:51:20 AM »

I realize that this may have been address before, but I couldn't find any specifc opinions.  I am switching to AMSoil at my next change, which is soon,  no question.  But does anyone have an opinion of these oil filters?
http://www.scottsperformance.com/products.php?PartType=3

Putting cost aside, and I realize it would take about 10 or more oil changes to recoup the expense, but are they really any better?

Thanks.

When this came up some time back I emailed (I think but I drink a lot) Mobil about their oil filters, (a direct replacement) for our bikes and was told by the manufacturer that they did not recommend their filter because it might cause to much restriction to the oil flow and cause overheating etc... Made me a little uneasy. I just think we don't gain enough extra filtration since we change our oil as often as we do to pay for the high dollar "Cool Aluminium" that by the way you can't see without a mirror on the garage floor! Just my 2cents but really...how much would you pay to put a reusable spiffy looking filter on your F150?? Just as I thought!! :P :P :P

(I have checked and it was the PureOne PL14612 filter that the maufacturer said was not intended for the bikes, my bad)

I noticed in that article (a reference to which was posted many moons ago) that Wix was one of the recommended filters.  I tried one and it leaked like a bad diaper.  Put the OEM filter on and all was fine.  Yeah, I could have got a bad one and the rest of them may be just fine, but, I'm not taking any more chances.   I will, however, try one of the afore mentioned filters that everyone seems to like.

Well, I didn't order the expensive stainless steel filter, but did order the PurOne that fits our bikes, ML-16817 $11.98(pack of 2).  AMSoil is on it's way too.

I use Wix filters on every vehicle I own, and have for years. You must have had a damaged one.
