Kuryakyn PRO - R Hypercharger
« on: May 16, 2007, 04:46:33 PM »

I just ordered a Kuryakyn Pro-R Hypercharger for my 1800R.
It's scheduled to arrive on Monday and I can't wait!
Any advice for the install?
I've heard that the Kuryakyn instructions always suck.

I put that one on my 1300R
it took me about 2.5 hrs. But i had to rejet my carb too.
So the instructions were great if you ask me. It may take you 2hrs. if that.
PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks for the offer. May have to take you up on it.
I am hoping with the 1800, b/c it is fuel injected, it will be easier to install then on the 1300.
Guess I'll see soon enough....

I don't think it's too tough of an install.  I think the vacuum hoses are a little tricky from what I've heard but that's about it.  You should be fine.   O0

yeah, keep extra vacuum lines for when you cut one of them off wrong.

Thanks for the advice on the hoses.
Are available at any auto parts store or do you have to get them from a bike shop?

Got my Hypercharger in today!
Install starts tomorrow!

But the directions look like a bunch of crap.
Guess I'll just have to wade through them.

Did the install today.
Took me two hours.
Not bad considering I'm hopping around on one leg right now!
There were a couple of "weak spots" in the instructions, just had to use some common sense to figure out what Kuryakyn was trying to say.
Bikes looks meaner now, I like it!!!

When I put mine on, about 3 years ago, the instructions were wrong.  Got her all put together and the butterflies didn't work.  A quick call to Kury and one of their engineers told me what was incorrect on the instructions and it was just a simple move of one hose and plugging another.

I have been pleased with mine, mostly with the look.  Doesn't seem to make any difference in low end, but, seems to help after the 'r's'
get up.

Have you changed the butterfly valves to match the color of your bike?
If so, did you end up liking that look more of less than the original?

No color change for me.......I like the chrome and they are easy to clean bug pookey off of.  Besides, I am cheap at heart and wouldn't spend money to replace something that is working just fine......just my opinion, I could be wrong.  Of course, that didn't stop me from putting a fuel mapper, slip ons and a ton of other superfluous crap on her.

I was thinking about putting a few colored LED lights inside the hypercharger (drill a few holes in the back plate, outside of the filter area, for mounting).   They ought to look good reflecting off of the butterflies......probably against the law, though.  What the heck, so is doing 126 in a 65,  O0

Oh crap!  Forgot you were on here!   No, no, that should have read 12.6 mph, yeah, that's the ticket!   12.6, that has to be what it was.

Actually, it was on a long divided four lane, could see for miles and not another car in sight....just me and two other bikes and I decided to blow the cobwebs out.  BTW, the 126 was simply indicated......can reasonably assume that it was not correct, given the reputation of the X's travelometer.   Bad part was that she was still pulling like a tractor and had plenty of throttle left....and that's pushing a windshield and bags.

When doing the install it almost seemed like the circular, smaller black plastic air filter that fits into the K&N air filter is not needed.
Is is required/recommended to be installed?
