slack in rear end. Honda vtx1300
« on: May 07, 2007, 11:01:50 PM »

I just purchased a 2004 Honda vtx1300. And there seems to be excessive slack in the rear end between idle and acceleration. Is this normal in shaft driven bikes?

yes, and also with bikes that aren't sprung properly for their (or your) weight. get some progressive springs in the front and rear, and feel what a VTX really should feel like. oh, and welcome to the board.

Welcome! Yeah the "play" is normal. You will normally hear it reffered to as "shaft jacking", given the tendency for it to raise and lower the bike some during acceleration/deceleration.

No Its not when I hammer down on it. Its just when I let off the accelerator then start to apply the gas slowly is when there is this clicking sound in the rear end as if there is slack in It. (like a chain with a link missing.)
