Don't buy gas on May 15th
« on: April 26, 2007, 12:52:03 PM »

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices.
Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all myspace members are asked to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places. (It's up to $2.76 in Abilene, TX and It's up to $3.39 in Delano, CA)

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the myspace network, and the average car takes about 30 to 40 dollars to fill up.

If all myspace members did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,200,000,000.00 (that's BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day.
So, please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and let's try to put a dent in the oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I can't see why you wouldn't) repost this bulletin--"Don't pump gas on May 15th

That's just like the mexicans not working for one day... no one cares, you dont buy gas on the 15... big deal you will have to buy gas eventually unless you walk, ride the bus, or have an electric car...  I'll buy gas before the 15th so that when the price goes up on the 17th I wont be so mad...

I'll pay $5.00 per gallon just as long as I don't have to wait 3 hours in line for it... some of you folks are old enough to remeber what is that like!!   ;)

We all need gas.... That's a fact.  We all probabaly need it on a daily basis, too.  So to say go without for one day is kinda crazy.  In order to get the price of gas down you have to attack the market leader.  In this case, Exxon Mobil.  Boycotting them everyday will have a better effect on gas prices as opposed to boycotting them all for just one day.    The other gas companies follow Exxon Mobil's lead when it comes to pricing for the most part.

I haven't bought Exxon Mobil gas for sometime now and plan to not do so even though I own their stock and my father in law retired from the company.   O0

They tried that crap in the early 70's also. They told my dad to park his semi-trucks for a week. He told them if they paid his bills and fed his family he would do it. Then we ended up with the 55 mph speed limit.

Boycott sounds fine until you stop and realise that all the gas stations are supplied by the majors like mobil.
After Rita the supply trucks went to the major oil company stations first and then to the smaller individual stations. They make sure they get thiers. So, even if you boycott the majors, you are still buying thier gas else where.  :-\

The only way to stop the monopoly is to stop using it period or tell the tree huggers to get the hell out of the way, we are here to drill.

mobil is cheaper than shell around here....probably a bit more ethanol and that's why I'm getting crappy mileage. I was thinking the same thing about what happens when all the people fill up on the 14th and they have a huge peak and then it's just a little dip on the 15th.
