I don't know that the magnet will affect the speedometer, but don't put credit cards, licenses, etc. with magnetic strips in it.

I use this one and like it pretty well.  http://www.sporttour.com/luggage/cortech/tank_bag_super_mini.htm

I put it on upside down from the picture, right where the tank meets the seat.  It's stable, high winds don't effect it, has a map window, pretty organized interior section, too.  As for messing with the speedo, nothing squirrely so far.  O0

+1 for this bag. I took mine from houston to D.C. with no problems at all. credit cards and stuff don't matter. the magnets aren't that close to that stuff either. you can get the one that's one size bigger and carry a lot more stuff, but the small size of this bag makes it convenient for carrying into places of business, should you stop on your trip. no need for the security strap up to 100 mph (i have a wind tunnel).

i just used the one jerry let me borrow for my trip to cali.  i think its a goretech or coretech or something like that.  even at 95 mph+ it never slid at all and was extremely nice for my mp3 player and cigarettes...  oh, and it didnt mess with the speedo at all....
