Doin' spring tune after layoff due to car accident. Failed to winterize and payin' the price.

Oil, plugs, filters chg OK. Bike didn't run without choke and lugged out during acceleration. Oh boy, carb boil out coming. Tried carburetor cleaner, no help. Replaced float valve that was sticking. Bought slide piston/diaphram but doesn't look bad so I left it in the box for return ($75). Bike will not start at all but "runs" on carb cleaner. No fuel in bowl. Pulled gas cock diaphram and no prob - pulled carb air cut off/diaphram/pin - no problem.

Gas tank overflow is OK. Vacuum tubes are clear and like new. Carb main body airflow judged with covering with palm is strong.

Before I started on it ... it ran ... just not well or without choke.

?????? Any ideas? I am an old timer bike mechanic and this vacuum tube stuff is beyond me ... I never had a bike flood crank with gas anyways.

BTW - I have the VTX1300C 2004 service manual.

I've had the vacuum line come off the petcock and I've had it come off the tee; either of these could cause the problems you're having. Check those lines and their connections.

Yeah, the line came of the thermostat. It will now start and run with choke on but dies when idling down or choke off.

Any ideas? I think I may still have a jet or carb clog ...

Thanks for the advice.

Can of SeaFoam in tank and idled at different RPMs for 30 minutes and a ride around the neighborhood = no more problem.

Carb fuel gum problem solved without pulling carb again! (I had it off 2 or 3 times) Couldn't get carb clean throughout with carb cleaner and risked ruining the numerous rubber diaphrams. SeaFoam rocks!

Gonna put another can in the next tank full.

I kept seeing your thread, but didn't even think about it

It cured my ACE

Seafoam works wonders especially if you get bad gas from the pumps this stuff even makes that gas work
I add seafoam to all my vehicles it helps remove all the gunk........

it even brought back my lawnmower from certain death.

just don't use too much it burns really hot  you only need an ounce or 2 every tank for a  couple of fill ups

Can says 1 ounce for 8 to 16 gallons mix with gas. I'm running nitro right now! Need to top off a few times to dilute the mix. I'm about 3 ounces to the gallon right now.

Thanks for the heads up.

Or, you can run a little Techron Fuel System Cleaner through it once or twice a year, and put some StaBil in the fuel if you're not going to run it for a long period of time.

This stuff is about 10 times more potent than any other carb cleaner additive on the market and costs $5.99 for the can of 16 ounces that's about 8 fill ups O0
