polish vs. chrome wheels
« on: January 02, 2007, 04:05:12 PM »

Can someone help me out here?  I am getting mixed signals about chroming my 1800F wheels.  Some people are telling me I will have rust problems later on.  Should I get them polished instead?  Does anyone have a good grasp on this?  I really need help.  How much of a difference look wise will there be?  I would like to get something done ASAP!  Thanks for all your help!

I've had the wheels on my 02 1800 C for going on 3 years and not had a problem yet.  I think that if you get a good chromer then there will be no problem.

Also the upkeep of the chrome wheels are easier than the polished ones "IMHO".

lolololol, I think the name was A-1 Chrome in Houston on Airline (might be Airline chrome) but really can't remember.  I now use Bright Metals to chrome anything I have as Gus does a really good job.  Both are on the Northside of Houston.

this is just a crazy suggestion but have you ever thought of powdercoating them? very low maintanence and never rust. and you can do any color to include chrome.   just an alternative.  ride safe

I have heard nothing but good things about Gus at Bright Metals.  I will have to give him a call and get them done.  Thanks for all the replies.  Happy New Year!

Polished aluminum is a huge PITA to keep pretty. I'd vote for powdercoating, unless it's gotta be shiny. In that case go for the chrome.

Where is a good place to get them powdercoated?  About how much would it cost?

i can find out this weekend the name of the shop. it is extremely cheaper than chroming and the upkeep is much easier. davesax36 may also have some info. i know his wheels were powdered black.

If u want it shiney wheels.. go for chromed ones... Chad has Polished wheel and chromed wheel at his shop.. there's big difference between them both!... I would go for Chrome Personally.. just spray and wipe off and ride.. as opposed to polishing every wheekend...IMHO

or  u can go for powder coated.... O0
