If you have Metzler ME 880 Marathons.........
« on: December 19, 2006, 06:46:34 PM »

What tire pressure do you run?  Just had a new set installed and I seem to be getting some confusing information from the dealer.  Metzler's tire guide only show what the Max is, which is 42 psi.

I have found that if you want the longest life out of the 880's, you need to run 42psi as much as possible.  Anything less will result in cupping.  Hope that helps.....   O0

i did alot of research on that same ? about 6 months ago. seems the most recommended pressure i've found is between 39psi and 42psi. i've got 8K miles on my 880's with no cupping or abnormal wear what so ever. i try to keep 40 psi at all times. i usually check them once a week. make sure to check them when they're cold. good luck. The service manager told me 41 on both, but when I checked the pressure when I got them on the bike they were at 38 f and 40 r, which is different than what he told me.  Then he changed it and said to run the max on the stated on the tire which is 42.  No wonder I am cornfused,.

I'm so smart I get headaches and I have come to the conclusion that the tire mfgs. don't stamp that tire pressure on the tires just for the heck of it.

Low air pressure gives you low tire life. 42 psi isn't the most comfy but the bike handles better and the tires last longer. It doesn't take too many miles running on low pressure to ruin a tire. I learned the hard way. My crystal ball says 38-42psi

Hey X riders, Metzlers are the best.  According to the team that travels from Rally to Rally the front needs 40psi and the rear 42psi.  Check the once a week when ridding.  If winter or if you are off from ridding check before you start again.  This is form the team that covers Sturgis and Daytona.  I visited  with them 3 years ago.  Hope you like the tires, they are great in tight corners as well as the rain.  I have 46460 miles on an o2 C model, and after the original Dunny's I have always had Metzlers.

Merry Christmas

Thanks PP.  I hated the stock Dunnies, but with the 1300R with that oddball front whell, until now there was no other choice.  Looking forward to putting some miles on them.
