Opinions on putting 240 on
« on: May 05, 2006, 08:46:15 AM »

I am going to put a 240 Kit on my bike this fall. Since I am all thumbs and a moron I have no idea what to go with. I want to use the stock seat. If anyone has advice on what to purchase let me know.

I am already know what wheels I am getting and I want the smaller hub as well.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR 240 KIT...  BETTER HAVE SOME DEEP POCKETS

THERE IS A GUY IN THE NATIONAL BOARD SELLING A REAR FENDER AND SEAT FOR A 240 KIT... NOT A BAD DEAL EITHER.

i HAVE A 240 SWING ARM...  WANNA BUY IT?

The big decision is fender style, and paint.  Fiberglass or steel, how much to spend on paint, how painted.  Flushed taillight, or something else.  There's also the softtail option.  So, I guess in order, you'd need to decide:

1. Standard swingarm (widened) or softtail kit.  The softtail looks cooler, and is much lower, but I have reservations about the brackets needed.  The standard swingarm is much more robust and problem free, but not quite as cool.  The softtail also limits the fender choices quite a bit.

2.  i like steel fenders, but so far as I know, there is only one available.  but it can be worked and shaped, and there's some very cool stuff that can be done frenching in the taillight.

3. Fiberglass is a little cheaper, and easier to shape, but not nearly as durable.

4. Plan to do the painted parts together.  The tank with the fender, in other words.  man, these pop-top tanks look awesome, but require going with a veypor or dakota unit.

The best thing to do, is to get a picture in your head of how you want it to look when you're done, and start moving that way.  You can do it in chunks too, to manage the money in/out.
