Need a bit of help. ASAP
« on: November 19, 2006, 08:38:43 PM »

We have had a death come up in the family, and Melanie will need to drive to Illinois in the next couple days. The suburban would kill us on gas, and she's not quite ready for a winter ride to the north on the bike. Does anyone here in the Houston area have a small economy car that they might trade for the Suburban for a week? She would probably put around 2500 miles on your vehicle, and we would be more than happy to take care of an oil change, and whatever else might be needed.

Thanks

Sorry to hear of this.  If I had a dependable car I'd even deliver it and just ride my bike to work.  However it has a tranny just waiting to go,and Liz' didn't pass inspection.  Hope it comes together for ya.

How about a flight?  I would donate $50.00 to the cause. I'm sure that we have other VTX'ers that would chip in.
Let me know. O0

a flight doesn't work b/c of the holiday season for one and the bereavement cost (regardless of the "discount" is too expensive) plus I'd still be out a vehicle once I got there. Financially it's better for me to drive. I'm fine driving the suburban though but would appreciate any and all prayers.  :'(

Mel, our prayers are with you. Please remember if you start getting tired pull over for the night and don't try to drive straight through. The time you save by pushing yourself isn't worth what you risk loosing. I have driven to Iowa and back more then once with just the kids. One time on the way back I had to pull over for the night North of Madisonville (less then 2 hours from home) cuz I was just to tired to safely make it. However if when you are coming back and get as far a the Woodlands and can't make it any further call me no matter how late it may be. I'm 12 minutes from the 45.

Drive safe

Thanks for the offers guys. Doughboy dropped by earlier, and I want to thank him for his generosity. We really appreciate it, and will treat this as a short term loan. 8)

A special thank you goes out to all of you.

We got Mel a small rental car at a very decent price with unlimited miles. I figure we came out about half of what it would have cost for her to drive the gas hog up there. Mel and my daughter Grace left around 12:00 this afternoon and made Arkansas around 6:45 this evening. She is going to try to make it to the other side of Little Rock before getting a hotel for the night. Me and the boys get the house to ourselves for the week, and will be running around in our underwear and leaving the toilet seat up. :o

We appreciate what you folks have done, and will not forget it. It's awesome to realize just how big our "family" is.
