Besides being so freaking cool looking this seems like an excellent way to make sure the cagers see you at night.  Definately a mod I want to do some day, so Taz I might be giving you a call, lol

They don't pay attention to you in the daytime, so I would not rely on anything at night. To many distractions in the cage!

It's illegal to ride with them on. Up to you, though.

Really?  I had a DPS officer tell me to put all the lights on it that I can so maybe cagers will see me.  Plus I have had many officers run right beside me and just check them out.

Yep, put all the lights on it you can. They just have to be legal (unless you want to risk a citation).

So the LED lights all within the engine is ILLEGAL?  Do you know why hipshot?  What would be the reason?  Does this mean that the ones cars have along running boards and under the chassis is also illegal?

I did find this in the TX statutes.   Don't know if this means anything beyond this is illegal, guess it would be up to a judge to decide.  Of course theres others that specify no blue or red lights visible from the front, any lights/reflectors mounted on the rear must be red (other than turn signals which may be red or amber).  Still digging...

 547.332. Other Lamps Permitted

     A motor vehicle may be equipped with:

     (1) not more than two side cowl or fender lamps that emit an amber or white light without glare;

     (2) not more than two running board courtesy lamps, one on each side of the vehicle, that emit an amber or white light without glare; and

     (3) one or more backup lamps that:

     (A) emit an amber or white light only when the vehicle is not moving forward; and

     (B) may be displayed separately or in combination with another lamp.

Also, motorcycle specific lighting statutes - nothing here that prohibits common LED installations:

SUBCHAPTER M. ADDITIONAL OR ALTERNATIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR
MOTORCYCLES[0] AND MOTOR-DRIVEN CYCLES

   § 547.801.  LIGHTING EQUIPMENT.  (a)  A motorcycle[0],
including a motor-driven cycle, shall be equipped with:
      (1)  not more than two headlamps mounted at a height
from 24 to 54 inches;
      (2)  at least one taillamp mounted at a height from 20
to 72 inches;
      (3)  a taillamp or separate lamp to illuminate the rear
license plate that complies with the requirements of Sections
547.322(f) and (g);
      (4)  at least one stoplamp that complies with the
requirements of Section 547.323(d);  and
      (5)  at least one rear red reflector that complies with
the requirements of Section 547.325(b) and may be included as a part
of the taillamp.
   (b)  A motorcycle[0], other than a motor-driven cycle, shall be
equipped with multiple-beam lighting equipment that produces:
      (1)  an uppermost distribution of light[0] that reveals a
person or vehicle at a distance of at least 300 feet ahead;  and
      (2)  a lowermost distribution of light[0] that:
         (A)  reveals a person or vehicle at a distance of
at least 150 feet ahead;  and
         (B)  is aimed so that no part of the
high-intensity portion of the beam on the motorcycle[0] that is on a
straight and level road under any condition of loading projects
into the eyes of an approaching vehicle operator.
   (c)  A motor-driven cycle shall be equipped with:
      (1)  multiple-beam lighting equipment that complies
with the requirements of Subsection (b);  or
      (2)  single-beam lighting equipment that:
         (A)  emits light[0] sufficient to reveal a person or
vehicle:
            (i)  at a distance of at least 100 feet when
the cycle is operated at a speed less than 25 miles per hour;
            (ii)  at a distance of at least 200 feet when
the cycle is operated at a speed of 25 miles per hour or more;  and
            (iii)  at a distance of at least 300 feet
when the cycle is operated at a speed of 35 miles per hour or more;
and
         (B)  is aimed so that no part of the
high-intensity portion of the beam from the lamp on a loaded cycle
projects a beam higher than the level center of the lamp for a
distance of 25 feet ahead.
   (d)  A motorcycle[0] may not be operated at any time unless at
least one headlamp on the motorcycle[0] is illuminated.  This
subsection does not apply to a motorcycle[0] manufactured before the
model year 1975.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.  Amended
by Acts 1997, 75th Leg., ch. 782, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1997;  Acts
1999, 76th Leg., ch. 1022, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1999.

You're reading it backwards Crow, nothing ALLOWS the use of LEDS. If it's not listed, it isn't legal.
That statute is what is allowed, or required, not prohibited, unless it specificly says it prohibits something.

Don't think so snake...  If they accuse you of breaking the law, they have to be able to cite the specific law you're breaking.  I'd have to contest it if they wrote me up.

Wonder if anybody knows of any biker-friendly legislators we could ask to introduce something specifically allowing LED lighting on motorcycles, in the interest of safety/better night time visibility...  They've done it in other states... PA that I know of...

Most times you won't get pulled over even with them on...but if the police are looking for a reason, well, there ya are. Some state statutes specifically mention incandescent bulbs for the turn/brake lights, so theoretically, you would not be legal using a led type bulb. I know some have also had problems after putting on clear lenses and using colored bulbs when the state has specific language stating amber rear turn lenses and Red rear brake and running lenses. Laws will eventually be changed to allow the trends, but the wheels of justice are slow. LOL
