Turn Around! Don't Drown!
« on: September 27, 2015, 09:33:24 AM »

How many times have you heard that? Bunch a bull, no doubt.

Well, Connie and I were taking the back road from Fischer, TX to Wimberley, TX via the Fischer Store Road. It's a nice road. Mostly sweepers. Deer all along the sides and we even saw a coyote. But we get almost to the Blanco River and we got stopped.

Well, hell. So we got out of the SUV and walked to the end of the road.

How much does your car weigh? How much does a bridge span weigh? Even the bridge was a "No Contest" against the water. This bridge is less than 10 miles from our place but on the other side of the hill.

They had it anchored pretty good. This is a 1 inch iron bar that used to be vertical and held the span to the abutment.

I just want you to think about it next time you see water over the road.

I don't care what other people think. They don't do it very often!
Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

People really don't realize the force of moving water.  :notworthy:

I have a friend who owns the stone cabins on the river as you enter into Wimberly...they were totally destroyed by that flood.  It was devastating.  I lived in San Marcos during my college years. You learn to respect the flooding and watch the skies when you live in the Hill Country.

I was working at the deer lease outside of Johnson City that weekend and left my RV there while I went to SA to stay with friends.

Weeks later I discovered the water rose to about 1/2 way up the wheels. My porch and everything not tied down washed away and the bridge accessing the main entance to the Ranch was gone. Lotsa folks weren't so lucky.
