Not moto related. DIM Holster
« on: May 19, 2014, 08:31:36 AM »

DIM (Did It Myself)

So some of you guys may know I just recently got into leatherworks and testing my hand to see what I can do.  I needed a holster for a this pistol so I set out to make my own.

I started with a blank raw piece of 7-8 oz. Vegetable tanned leather, cut it to shape and then cut and stamped the tooled portion by hand.  Afterwards I dyed it with a Acorn brown dye and stitched with a white waxed stitch.  Afterwards I did the wet molding by hand.

All in all, I see some things that I know I can improve on but I'm very pleased and proud of this piece.

Good work, looks really nice.  How does it hold the gun?

How does it hold the gun?

The retention is great.  You can actually slip the gun into and hold it upside down and it will not come out.  I wet molded and using my thumb I pushed around the edges and into the trigger guard.  Additionally once you loop thru your belt the natural curvature of your waist while the gun is holstered actually tightens the leather around the gun and thus giving it more retention value.  Basically this gun ain't coming out by pure accident.

I probably could.  Not so sure about the actual letters but I could definitely do the Bar & Shield logo.

It is to me for sure. I bought an iwb hybrid holster and while it's not totally uncomfortable I just can't get used to it. I thing I prefer OWB oh and I hate having to buy pants a size larger.

Excellent craftsman at work,  great job. Now all you need is a messager pouch.
