Rough Feeling
« on: March 05, 2014, 07:53:41 PM »

 ??? ??? ??? ???
O.K.  What would cause you to have a rough feeling in the handlebars only when you lean? I thought my front bearing were going bad so I replaced them but the feeling is still there. I am going down to ride the 3 sisters next week and want to make sure everything is good.

Has to be tripple tree all balles replacement or could be schocks or front tire?
Good luck.

There is some wear on this Dunlop E3 I am running so I think it is the tire. The fork seals & bearing were replace by the dealer this time last year. On a car, when you have a bad front wheel bearing, there will be a rough sound that is more noticeable when you slightly turn the wheel one way or the other. That is what somewhat what I am noticing and I just started noticing it a couple weeks ago. By the wear that is on my tire, I would say it is the culprit. Any suggestions as to what tire lasts the longest on an 1800c? I only paid $50.00 for this tire around this time last year & have been riding whenever I can.

Rode around the block yesterday evening without my helmet on so I could listen for this problem and noticed that it was coming from the rear wheel area, not the front like I had thought. Guess I need to pull the rear tire off & see what's going on. The funny thing is that I just replaced the rear bearings with All-Balls bearings last winter.

I'm sure All-Ball bearings are good, lots of people swear by them. Those 2 bearings in the spline hub, the ones that always seem to go bad, well here's my $.02 on that. First time I replaced them with All-Ball bearings, not long after that, they went away again (maybe 6000 mile max.) and I figured I hadn't seated them good or something so I did it again with All-Balls. Made sure they were in all the way and flush together. Another 5 or 6000 (or less) they're gone again. What the heck is going on? So I figured 3rd time's a charm and guess what, they didn't last till the water got hot. I went to the dealer and got some factory Honda bearings. That was 2 tires and I don't how many miles ago, but their were still hanging there at last check. All-Balls are open bearings (you can see the bearing balls and cage from both sides), Honda are sealed on one side. I packed the open side of the honda bearing with wheel bearing grease, not Moly, and then installed the bearings open face to open face which left the sealed sides of the bearing exposed to the outside. All I can say is it's working for me, but now that I've said something Murphy's Law will bit me.  :redcard:

 :agree:      HOOTER,
Tore it apart after I got off work & guess what, the flange bearings were rough as heck. Don't think the All Balls are any good for the flange bearing. When I replaced the original bearing, it had over 60,000 miles on it. Guess I'll drop a little coin on the Honda bearing. Both wheel bearings are still real smooth.

Just checked my local dealers website & it shows those bearings are less than $14.00. Wonder if the dealer sells them for that or is that just the price you pay if you order them on line. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I was surprized as to how inexpensive they were and $14 is about right. I paid 15 to 18. Glad you figured out your wine and get those honda bearings, pack them with grease like I said and you'll see a difference for sure.  :c :c

Will definitely do that. We  still need to get together for a ride. Maybe I'll take a couple days off over the summer & we can get together then.

Found out Saturday, when I ordered them, that the cost is $14.00 per bearing. Still worth the price if I don't have to replace them every year.

The bearing is connected to the flange, the flange is connected to the wheel hub, the wheel hub is connected to the final drive........
