Yes, the air filter is a nightmare. Allot of pieces to come off, screws to loose, and plastic to break.
 :agree:    :cuss:      :c
spent too much time changing mine.

Haven't tried it yet, but I'm guessing that a valve adjustment might be a major chore also.

I have looked at those. I sometimes think that since I always ride solo , maybe a lighter bike might be in order but then I get on the wing and that thought disappears . Specially the type of riding I do.

It is a very nice bike and I like the styling and the V4 is or would be a plus, along with the wider rear tire for handling. I really do think it would be a nice machine and watching some of the advertisement videos, well shoot, I'd like to price and check one out.
((((Poof))))) I wake up. Ole Blue, she's got all I want, chrome, forward controls, back rest on the Ultament seat and a sissy bar with a rack to carry my 12 pack cooler. Already sitting on Hog Heaven and she'd be sad if I sold her so ----- I'm 1800 VTX Forever I guess.

ps Already had a Wing and it was nice and I did enjoy it about 50,000 miles worth but something about my X keeps the thrill alive.

but isn't it just a redo of the ST1300? which I also like but the price is right up there with the wing.

The valves are much easier to get to on the Goldwing.  All that is necessary is to remove the upper engine panel on each side.

As far as changing the air filter is concerned, it is definitely a pain in the butt.  I've been told, however, that the filter doesn't need to be changed anywhere near as often as the manual prescribes unless the bike is regularly garaged or ridden in very dusty conditions.  I've found many reports on the GL1800Riders board of owners changing the filter after as much as 50k miles and finding hardly any dirt at all on the old filter.  I haven't changed the filter yet myself, but when I do, I am not dreading unfastening the tupperware nearly as much as getting the various wire harnesses unplugged.

[/quote] mine had 17000 on it and was due, not terrible but due. figuring out how the harness plugs come apart is definately the key and if you haven't done it ,it will really frustrate you. That was the biggest problem. but after I figured out one the others went better. When your ready, let me know if you want some help.

it's a different frame, the engine is tuned for more low end torque.  think of it as a old model goldwing.

Yup...that's why I call y'all "Oldies on Goldies".  Leisurely riding at its finest.   :stickpoke:   ;D
