1800C exhaust
« on: August 02, 2013, 08:23:37 AM »

Just out of curiosity:
I have an '07 1800c. I'm probably one of a handful of owners who likes the stock exhaust, from a "quiet and works fine" standpoint. The only thing I don't care for is the overall length of the single end pipe. Was just out in the garage, staring at the configuration, and got to wondering if anyone had ever considered or attempted shortening or "bulldogging" the stock pipe. I'm not under the influence of anything, by the way. There appears to be about eight inches that could come off between the indent of the heat shield and the end cap.  A good, fine cut chop saw, a bit of welding, and replace the end cap when you're done. Possible?  If not, the only aftermarket (yes, I have extensively looked at every available manufacturers' products) that I find aesthetically pleasing is the Cobra Slashdown. Sorry, nothing else even remotely catches my eye. Did I mention that I would have to pay money for the aftermarket exhaust? That part doesn't please me much.

Oh yes, in the world of Swamp Fox you will travel many roads, some completely uncharted and never seen on any map. Some are like Platform 9 3/4 at the train station in Harry Potter.

Yes it is possible. Have seen a few that have changed the angle of the end so it is sideways.

Many years ago there was a co that was modifying stock pipes in a similar way to what you are talking about. I think they were charging around 300$ for the job. Stock exhaust can be bought for very little money, and with a little research on the VTXOA I am sure you can find the drawings pic's and how to info on doing just what you are talking about. I was going to do it on a spare set just to see if I would like it, if not my stock setup is still good to go. I had totally forgotten about it until your post. Thanks for tripping my CRS trigger.

Well, a brief search of ebay finds that most of the stock take offs that people are selling, are priced higher than many of the full aftermarket exhaust systems. So much for experimenting.

Rick,

If I am not mistaken they shorten it from the front of the muffler so they can keep the upset at the end for the stock tip, not sure on this.
