Keep my dad in your thoughts and prayers
« on: August 21, 2012, 10:21:08 PM »

We're making a bucket list trip for my mom through the northwest states. So we've been to Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona (barely) and Utah.

Dad's been kinda out of sorts and when we got to Kanab, UT, he said he felt bad. Took him to the small local hospital in Kanab. Great place, better people. Dad wasn't taking enough air in and was slowly poisoning on CO2. The doctor looked him over and called for Life Flight to carry him 80 miles to St George, UT and a bigger better facility. The folks here deal with altitude sickness all the time and said he didn't have that but he did have a lung problem. They put him on an external ventilator for the night to get his CO2 levels down and this afternoon the doctors removed it. He's breathing on his own but is still struggling a little. We are being told he will get moved from ICU to a regular room tomorrow (Wednesday) but no idea when he is going to be released.

Prognosis looks good at this time but the trip is being re-routed to avoid any high passes on roads home. Hopefully, we are back on the road by Friday. But you know doctors. If he looks even a bit bad, they will hold him until Monday. More later. See Connie's FB account for pictures so far.

I don't care what other people think. They don't do it very often!
Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

Sorry to hear Wayne.  I hope your dad gets to feeling better, but I'm sure he's loving this trip you're giving him anyways.

Will keep him in my prayers. I am really glad you and Connie are there with him. I have been through this, 2 years ago my mom came for a few days over Thanksgiving and went home 21 days later on oxygen. The only thing I was thankful for was that she was here and we were able to help.
