I'd check the battery cables as well. Make sure you use a socket and not a phillips.Something else to look at is the starter solenoid. I know several who have had to replace theirs (seems tied to how they wired up their accessories).
I believe you can hook a meter to make sure it's not grounded out, but I'm not 100% sure. Do you have a service manual? If not, I can try and look to see if there is a diagnostic for that when I get home.You might try searching for solenoid on www.vtxoa.com. Big Larry over on the California board could probably tell you as well.
Just a guess, but see if you have arc burns on the starter switch contacts.
The kill switch was my issue.
Have you checked the kick stand switch ?
