Chrome bubbling
« on: December 28, 2011, 12:44:45 PM »

Noticed after going for a ride, the chrome was bubbling on a couple of my plastic chrome parts. I can only attribute this to the speed I was riding today , anyone ever heard of the chrome coming off due to high speeds ??? Thinking I scared the chrome off, guess I’ll just have to paint them the same color as the bike.
Anybody have this bubbling before, if so what did you do about it. Paint or re-chrome.

I think you can attribute the bibbling to the fact the parts are Kuryakin.

I met up with a Kury rep. at a shop one time and read him the riot act about how bad thier chroming is on there parts because everyone I've known that has had thier stuff complains how fast it peels off.  He stated it was the first time he had ever heard of that compliant.  I asked him if he had just been hired by Kury............. he said he had been with them for years.........I then told him he was a liar.

Kury chrome is sheeeeeet.  I've bought enough of thier stuff to know ..............not to buy anymore.

You can't paint over chrome.  It won't stick.  If you want to paint that part, you'll have to take it to a chrome plater so he can un-chrome it first.  They have to remove all plating down to the substrate metal.  They have to remove (remove it through reverse electroplating) the chrome, nickel and copper plating that was put on it originally. That may cost as much as re-chroming it.

Kury parts have a one year warranty on the chrome. I also complained at the LSR to a rep and he just reminded me of the one year warranty.....

Yes, I've used it on my 2011 4Runner grill to touch up some rock chips and previously on a Kuryakyn chrome handlebar electrical power point. I could have done a better job with the Kury application (chipped away on the face around the ring, caused by multiple 'hits' as I plugged and unplugged devices), but it looked a lot better than the missing chrome. On my 4Runner grill you're hard-pressed to even find the chips. If your Wallyworld doesn't carry any, visit the mall and check one of the beauty supplies (or pedicure shops).
