The propertry to the south of our place had a helicopter come in and shoot wild hogs. They used automatic weapons. When they went hunting they told us to put all of our dogs away untill they were finished.  :ohwow:

The feral hog population has exploded in the last ten years.  They number about 7 million total in the US with about 2 million just in Texas.  When I use to hunt a lot I saw the damage they can do and it's pretty amazing and having a pack of them chase you in the dark of night can get hairy.  Been there done that!  They can wipe out (eat) a crop of anything in no time and they can plow the land as well as any mechanical plow.  As a farmer or rancher, I can side with them and see the need to control ( but not eradicate) them.  While I can agree to "thinning the herd", hunters should be made to recover the dead hogs and deposit them at food bank centers or homeless shelters.  Hunters could collect a small bounty for each one from the government.  That way the homeless get feed and the hogs are controlled and your tax dollars would be spent for something good for a change.

Texas won't let you take a dead animal to the processing plant. It has to walk in. Unless they have changed the rules in the last 5 years. The only way they can get around the rules is to have the animal gutted and skinned.
