Torque setting for the head bolt on the triple tree:
« on: August 18, 2006, 08:12:51 AM »

Does anyone have a service manual for a 1300R?  I need to know the torques setting for the head bolt on the triple tree.

its more important to get the pull lbs correct than to get a specific torque setting. that is if you are installing the 1800 ball bearings in the 1300.
I shoot for 3lbs on the pull test, and on my bike was 20lbs torque. on others, Ive seen as low as 8lbs, but most are the 15-20lbs range. you need a good digital fish scale to do the pull test.

I have been getting a wobble on the front and it has gotten worse.  I was told to check the torque on the head bolt.  If that doesn't fix it and I run into a brick wall with Honda Servce then I'll go to the next step.

A worn/cupped front tire will cause that wobble too.

The X only has a little over 2,000 miles  I checked the front tire and put it at 40 psi cold.  It first started at about 50 to 55 mph.  On my way to Temple last weekend I got it at 75 mph and again at a slow left turn.  It goes away if I increase or decrease speed a little.

you are on the right path, using the stock bearings, torque them first, it should help....for awhile...
then plan on switching to the 1800 roller bearings sometime in the near future. its about a $35.00 fix, but takes about 3 hours to do the work.

This something I would like to do in the future also.  Maybe I can get Dan to help me...? O0
I have 23000 miles on mine and it is really bad.

an out of round tire would cause a "hop" up and down. I know, i had one. but out of balance will and can cause a virbration at certain speeds.
the head bearing going bad is noticed most by gettting the bike up to 40-45 mph and then taking the hands off the bars on decel, at about 35 it really starts to wobble back and forth.

Had the tire balanced.  Since it only has the 2K on it, I think it is the torque setting.  I am documenting everything in case I have a problem with Honda.  It is hard to get the dealer to do anything since it doesn't do it at all sometimes.  We road to Huntsville and back this morning and no wooble.
