Constant Start
« on: April 20, 2010, 08:40:43 AM »

I have a 03 C model. The other day I got ready to start the bike and the battery was dead. As this was the original battery I decided to buy a new one. I charged the battery and began to install, but every time I touch the positive lead the battery archs and trys to start the motor. any ideas.

That's what I would check first. It happened on my 1300R.

I'd check your starter solenoid first because you said it strikes an arc as soon as you touch the the battery and it tries to start the motor. Was the key on or off? Surely if you were changing the battery out your key was turned off.  If off, then check the solenoid, if the key is on then check the starter button. Also if the key is on, flip your engin kill switch on you bars to off and that will kill the operation of the starter button also. My money is on a stuck starter soleniod. just my $.02

Ditto on Al's post; odds are it's the solenoid. I believe Honda calls it the starter relay.
